Pomanders are a wonderful way to spice up your home during the holiday season. Cloves and oranges or lemons smell great and can be presented as a festive centerpiece on your table for all to see and smell.

Pomanders are easy to make and display. You can use a citrus zester to scrap the skin off your fruit into the desired design. Have a toothpick or safety pin handy and pre-poke a hole where you want the whole clove. Press the clove into the fruit.

After placing the cloves in the desired design, you are now ready to begin the drying process. There a few ways to do this. Place your pomander in a gas oven on the lowest setting for a few hours, turning it often to dry all sides. You can opt to place your pomander in a room temperature area out of the way. Turn daily to dry evenly. You can also mix some spices in a bowl with orris root, as orris root is a fixative. The spices will make your pomander’s aroma last the whole season long.
