Why Veterans Need Different Care

Military service shapes people in ways civilian caregivers don’t always understand. A Navy veteran might feel anxious when strangers enter their home. An Army veteran with PTSD could be triggered by unexpected touch during personal care. A Marine dealing with early dementia might become agitated when their routine changes.

These aren’t just preferences—they’re deeply ingrained responses that require specialized knowledge.

Serving Families Across South New Jersey

From Camden to Cumberland, we provide trusted in-home care across Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem Counties.

Our Approach: Trained to Understand

We understand the importance of veteran-specific training because we know standard home care training isn’t enough. Military service creates unique perspectives and challenges that require specialized understanding.

We’re developing comprehensive training for our caregivers that covers military culture, service-connected health issues, and the respectful approach every veteran has earned.

We’re also committed to building a team that includes caregivers with military backgrounds or family connections to service. There’s something irreplaceable about working with someone who understands military brotherhood and the particular way veterans communicate respect.

Whether your loved one served in Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, or Afghanistan, we’re dedicated to providing care that honors their service.

Veterans Benefits

When Memory Becomes the Battle

Dementia hits veterans differently. Sometimes it’s the flashbacks that get worse. Sometimes it’s the confusion about time—thinking they’re still on active duty. We’ve seen Vietnam veterans who become distressed when they can’t remember their unit, and Desert Storm veterans who panic when they lose track of their “mission.”

That’s why we use the AlzBetter program. It’s the only dementia training specifically designed for veterans. Our caregivers learn how military service affects memory loss, how to use familiar military structure to provide comfort, and when to seek specialized support.

More Than Just Home Care

Here’s what we’ve learned serving South Jersey veterans: they don’t just need someone to help with daily tasks. They need advocates who understand the system.

When families call us, they’re often dealing with multiple challenges at once. Maybe Dad’s mobility is declining, but he also needs help understanding his VA benefits. Maybe Mom has early dementia, but the family doesn’t know how to access specialized veteran services.

We help families navigate all of it. We coordinate with VA social workers, connect families with local veteran resources, and work alongside primary care doctors who understand military service health issues.

That’s what comprehensive veteran care looks like. We see the whole person, not just the care plan.

Understanding Your VA Benefits

Navigating VA benefits feels overwhelming when you’re already worried about your veteran’s care.

VA Home Care Services You Should Know About

The VA will pay for home care. Many families don’t realize this. If your veteran qualifies, the VA covers homemaker services (cooking, cleaning, errands) and home health aide services (bathing, dressing, medication reminders).

The catch? You need to work with a VA-approved provider. We are.

How it works: Your veteran’s VA care team determines eligibility. Once approved, we coordinate directly with the VA. No surprise bills, no insurance hassles. Let us help you coordinate this care.

Money Help for Veterans Who Need Care

VA Pension + Aid and Attendance This is the big one. If your veteran is 65+ with limited income, they might qualify for VA pension. If they need help with daily activities, they might also get Aid and Attendance benefits—that’s an extra $2,431 per month (as of 2024).

Housebound Benefits For veterans who can’t leave home safely but don’t need full-time care assistance. Less money than Aid and Attendance, but still helpful.

The VA system is complicated. Let us help you coordinate your care with the VA.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How quickly can care start after VA approval?

A: Usually within a week. We aim to staff our cases quickly.

Q: What if my veteran has PTSD and doesn’t want strangers in the house?

A: We start slow. Our first visit is can be just a meet-and-greet—no care, just conversation. We let the veteran set the pace. Many of our caregivers understand PTSD firsthand.

Q: Do you work with the VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, Wilmington or North Jersey?

A: Yes, and with VA facilities throughout South Jersey and the Philadelphia area. We coordinate regularly with VA social workers, nurses and care coordinators.

Q: What if my veteran doesn’t qualify for VA benefits?

A: We work with all types of insurance, including long-term care insurance and private pay. Our veteran-trained caregivers provide the same specialized care regardless of how it’s paid for.
